How It Works

Yes — PremioGuard only blocks USB mass storage devices. HID devices (keyboards, mice, barcode scanners, drawing tablets), printers, webcams, and audio devices are never touched. The distinction is made at the device class level, not by brand or model.

PremioGuard detects the device via a WMI event within milliseconds — before the operating system can mount a drive letter. A popup appears on screen showing the device name, Vendor ID, and Product ID, with options to request authorization or dismiss. The drive remains inaccessible until an admin approves it.

No. Authorization requires valid admin credentials that are verified against PremioGuard's online API. There is no local override path. Even a user with local administrator rights on the machine cannot approve a device without cloud-verified credentials.

Yes. Phones connected in MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) or PTP mode are treated as storage devices and blocked. Phones charging only (no data transfer) typically enumerate as a power device class and are not blocked.

Device Whitelist & Authorization

When an admin authorizes a USB device, PremioGuard records its unique hardware fingerprint: Vendor ID + Product ID + Serial Number. That specific device is permanently whitelisted on that machine. If the same drive is plugged into a different PC, it will be blocked there unless separately authorized.

Some low-cost USB devices report an empty or generic serial number. PremioGuard handles this case by falling back to VID + PID only. This means all devices of that model will be treated as the same device — which is a known limitation of the underlying USB standard.

Yes. Your customer dashboard shows a full whitelist of authorized devices per machine, including the device details, the date it was authorized, and which admin approved it.

Yes. From the dashboard you can remove any device from the whitelist. The change takes effect on the next license check — within minutes under normal connectivity.

Licensing & Activation

Each license is bound to a hardware fingerprint derived from your CPU ID, motherboard serial, disk drive ID, and primary network adapter MAC address. This fingerprint is hashed and stored server-side. It prevents the same key from being used on multiple machines simultaneously.

Yes. Open your customer dashboard, deactivate the license on the old machine, then activate it on the new one. Deactivation is self-service and takes effect immediately. If the old machine is no longer accessible, contact support to force-deactivate it.

Yes. The trial plan gives you 7 days of full functionality on one PC. No credit card is required — just create an account, download the installer, and enter your trial license key.

The agent stops enforcing USB blocking — storage devices will be accessible again. Your whitelist entries and audit logs are preserved in the dashboard. If you renew, protection resumes and your existing whitelist is restored without re-authorization.

Each license covers one PC. For organizations protecting multiple machines, you purchase one license per PC. Volume pricing is available for 10 or more machines — contact us for a quote.

Offline & Connectivity

Yes, with a grace period. PremioGuard caches your license and whitelist locally. If the machine goes offline, USB blocking continues normally for up to 7 days. When connectivity is restored, the agent re-validates in the background automatically.

The agent communicates with api.premioguard.com over HTTPS (port 443) for license validation and whitelist sync. No other outbound connections are made. If your network uses a proxy, configure it in Windows and the agent will respect those settings.

No. The agent never reads, scans, or transmits file contents. It only reports USB device metadata (Vendor ID, Product ID, Serial Number, device class) and license validation events to the server.

Installation & Compatibility

Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit). 32-bit editions of Windows are not supported. Windows Server editions are not officially supported but may work — contact us if you have a Server use case.

No known conflicts. PremioGuard uses WMI event subscriptions and a Windows service — it does not hook into antivirus driver stacks. It coexists with Windows Defender, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, ESET, and other major AV solutions. Some AV tools may flag the installer on first run; this is a false positive from the WMI subscription behaviour.

The agent periodically checks for a new version. When one is available, it downloads the package over HTTPS and verifies the file against a SHA-256 manifest before installing. Updates can be deferred from the admin dashboard if you need to control rollout timing.

Use Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps (or Control Panel → Programs), find PremioGuard, and uninstall. The uninstaller removes the service, watchdog, WMI subscriptions, registry keys, and all application files. Nothing is left behind.

Billing & Support

All major credit and debit cards via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). Manual invoice payment is available for organizations that require purchase orders — contact us to arrange.

If PremioGuard doesn't work as described on your hardware within 7 days of purchase, contact support and we'll issue a full refund. We don't offer refunds after 7 days or for change-of-mind cancellations.
