Activating a Computer
Entering a licence key, and what to do when activation is refused.
How activation works
Your licence key is tied to this specific computer. On first run you enter it, the application registers the machine against your account, and the computer appears in your dashboard.
If activation is refused
It is almost always one of a small number of things, and the message will usually tell you which.
- The key is already in use — a key protects one computer. Block the old machine in the dashboard to release it.
- Your plan has no free seats — every computer allowed by your plan is already activated. You need a larger plan.
- The computer is blocked — a blocked computer cannot re-activate until you unblock it in the dashboard.
- The server cannot be reached — check the computer has internet access, then try again.
Moving to a new computer
Install on the new machine and activate with a fresh key, or block the old machine in the dashboard to release its key and reuse it. Blocking first is the usual approach because it stops the old machine remaining active.
